thoughts from our retreat participants

how they feel after us

"This retreat showed me I am able to deeply connect with women with shared experiences like cancer. I am so thankful to have made lifelong friends and to feel seen by this community through retreat gave me hope for a long physically and mentally healthy future. So much of the Climbing experience parallels this crazy journey This retreat is a safe space to share, feel heard, to be with others that understand. It’s a life-changing weekend in the best possible way."

Sarah

The space and community is magical, healing, refreshing and rejuvenating. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced before. "Space and time can heal, but being in a space and time with the safety and support of Genuine Climbing has been powerful beyond what I could have ever imagined.”

Camille

"Since my cancer diagnosis last year, I felt like a stranger to myself. My body no longer felt like a safe place, and the emotional and mental toll of surgeries and treatments ravaged my self-confidence and overall resilience. My time spent rock-climbing was transformational. Since the retreat, my perspective on my cancer journey has changed. Cancer is tough and I don’t like it, but I’m not lost. I am here. I am strong. I am supported. Truly, this adventure has been the most empowering experience I’ve had since my diagnosis. What a gift!”

Emily

This has been a transformative experience for me. As a cancer survivor, I faced a significant loss of confidence and a fear of embracing new challenges. This retreat offered a safe and supportive environment that allowed me to reconnect with my inner strength and courage. The dedicated team at Genuine Climbing provided not only expert guidance but also genuine empathy, understanding and encouragement. Alongside fellow survivors, I rediscovered my love for adventure, and each climb became a symbol of resilience and triumph. This retreat has been the most influential part of my healing journey, empowering me to face life's challenges with renewed confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking camaraderie and a nurturing space to rebuild their spirit."

Ty

This retreat gave me the opportunity to actually remember myself. For the first time post surgeries, I put 100% into myself. I learned to let go of whatever preconceived notions, or the "box" I put myself in and break out! There’s a new me growing and she is amazing! She can do hard things! It was soul cleansing and life changing.

Jess

This retreat showed me I’m truly physically on the path recovery. My body showed me what it is capable of after TCHP and still currently on chemo. Getting to the top healed a part of me I didn’t realize needed healing. It was so encouraging and felt like the push I needed to learn to accept my new normal. Going through Cancer I lost my identity, sense of self, strength, and trust to my body. This retreat showed me I’m on the road to recovery and healing, despite still being in active treatment.

Gabi

Being a part of this retreat broke down walls for me. I feel comfortable being vulnerable. Rock climbing has a new meaning for me than just a sport or activity. I connected with nature and I’m encouraged to eat healthier. This was transformative. I can do hard things physically and mentally. You will receive support in so many ways. This is the first time I’ve laughed so much since my diagnosis. I’m leaving lighter and more hopeful after being a part of this retreat Anyssa in her team were amazing. Jane skills with art touched me tremendously thank you to all from the bottom of my heart. I’ve made dear friends and meaningful connections in just a few days.

Supporting Women in Treatment and Recovery

Why Rock Climbing?

Rock climbing helps heal women dealing with cancer because it combines physical exercise with mental empowerment. The physical activity helps build strength, endurance, and flexibility, which are essential for recovery. Mentally, the challenge of climbing fosters resilience and a sense of accomplishment, helping to shift focus away from the illness. Add in a supportive environment and the healing power of nature and you have the best and most fun treatment you will ever experience.

"This retreat restored my faith and myself and helped me restore trust in my body, and it’s ability to heal and do hard things. I’ve truly redefined the way I see myself. This retreat has been Transformative - of one of the best gifts I’ve ever received." - Karen

Genuine Climbing Core Values...

Authenticity

Be your truest, most genuine self. Authenticity means not having to hide behind your ego or what you think others may think of you. It’s about embracing vulnerability and staying true to yourself. It’s you, showing up, living in the moment, with conviction and confidence.

Courage

I know you have butterflies in your stomach, or maybe you are outright scared.  I also know you are here for a reason.  It’s time to step over the line of your comfort zone, because we both know that greatness is on the other side of that fear.  We are here to be brave.  Show the world your courage.

Growth

We are all ultimately on a journey of self improvement and constant learning.  Growth leads to new paths, expanding your knowledge, improving skills, and developing new ones.  I whole heartedly believe that every experience is an opportunity for self-awareness and learning.
